Representative Peter DeFazio (D-OR) introduced an
amendment to the Year 2000 Interior Appropriations Bill to prohibit the Forest
Service from implementing the Recreational Fee Demonstration Program. The amendment
failed to pass by a voice vote. This is only the second time that the program has
ever been even briefly debated on the House floor.
